A new year brings new possibilities, and this year, Pantone wants us to embrace a spirit of carefree confidence with a dose of curiosity and creativity, as symbolized by their color of the year, Veri Peri.
For the past 23 years, Pantone has selected a color each year that they think represents the spirit of the time. They look for color trends and influences from a wide variety of places, like fashion, arts, entertainment, interior design, graphic design, new technologies, and ads for upcoming events or travel destinations.
The Pantone color of 2022 is called Very Peri, a beautiful color with a friendly blue hue and undertones of red. This is the first year Pantone has created a custom new color for their yearly selection. This color “blends the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red to introduce an empowering mix of newness” – something we sorely need this year!
No matter where you are in the world and what your unique circumstances are, your life has no doubt been turned upside down in the last two years. With a bit of nostalgia, we think back to a pre-covid life and the things and experiences we loved – we yearn for the stability of that time, just like the trustworthy calmness of blue. But we also know we can’t go back and things will never be the same as it was before. And frankly, we’re ready for new and better things. Like the spirited red, we want to open ourselves up to new possibilities and rewrite our lives with a better, fresh vision.
Not only do we love the color Veri Peri, but we love the meaning behind it. Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of The Pantone Color Institute, says Very Peri “brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue color family, encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time with its violet red undertone, [it] displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions.”
We’re ready to take the new year by storm, and build a better life for ourselves, our families, and our society. Are you?
